FAQ’s

What does Hypnosis feel like?

Hypnosis is a ‘state of relaxation’, it is like the feeling that people have just before they fall asleep.  But you can hear noises around you and move, people often feel nice and relaxed.  You are NOT asleep or unconscious, you will simply feel nice and relaxed.

Can anyone be Hypnotised?

‘Yes’, anyone can be hypnotised if they want to be, some people go into hypnosis quicker than others. However, once you have been hypnotised it just gets easier and easier.

Do I lose control?

No, no one loses control during hypnosis, as mentioned earlier you can move and hear everything going on around you, so if there was an emergency you would open your eyes and respond in the normal way.  You will always remain in control of your thoughts and actions.

Is Hypnosis Safe?

Clinical hypnosis is completely safe, no one can make you do anything that you would not want to, if you would not tell me something prior to being hypnotised, I cannot make you tell me it during hypnosis, you are aware of everything that is going on.  Therapeutic Hypnosis is completely different to stage hypnosis.

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is simply a state of relaxation, which involves your mental and physical state, during this ‘relaxed state’ your subconscious mind, accesses stored information and memories, it also absorbs information, suggestions and can visualise new and different behaviours, which can bring about new therapeutic changes and positive thought patterns. Your subconscious mind is where all your emotions, habits and responses are stored, so by communicating with it changes can be make very quickly, whereas traditional counselling can often take months or years to resolve issues. When your mind is more relaxed it is more open and receptive, have you ever tried to remember something and the more you try the more you cannot remember it, but when you forget about it (or mentally relax from thinking about it), you can suddenly remember it.  This is why, using therapeutic techniques, during hypnosis powerful changes can be made.

Do you treat Children and Young Adults?

Yes I do, I always keep the sessions lighthearted and fun for everyone, but especially Children, also if they are under 18, I ask for a parent or responsible Adult to be present.

How many sessions am I likely to need?

Hypnotherapy works in differently ways on different people, plus it depends upon the individual’s requirements, all treatments are specifically tailored to meet your specific requirements, i.e. Smoking Cessation usually takes one or two sessions, but if there is let’s say an ‘emotional trigger’ as to why the person smokes, this trigger will also need to be addressed.  Everyone has different requirements and unfortunately there is no magic wand, even with significant change after just one session I like to see clients again, just to ensure that everything has been resolved.

Why are some treatments more expensive than others?

Some conditions can have deeply routed trauma or behaviours and they may require more intensive therapy, plus they could also take longer than the average session to treat. I do not finish a session until we are both ready to finish, your care and treatment is paramount and this can not be ran by a clock.

What payments do you accept?

I take payments by cash, card or PayPal, please see my fee’s page for full details.

How often will I need sessions?

At the start of your treatment, I’d suggest meeting weekly for the first 2 to 3 sessions.  It can be difficult with work and family commitments, but regular appointment’s will ensure that your treatment is consistent.  This is why I also offer evening and weekend sessions to my clients.

Why do you offer a free initial consultation?

At times people have little/no experience or different expectations and experiences of hypnosis and are unsure what hypnosis is and if hypnosis is the best treatment for them, any hypnotic treatment needs a commitment from you. So, by offering a free initial consultation, this is my commitment to you, I have seen some major life changing things happen during a hypnosis session, but commitment (from both of us) is the key. During the consultation, we will discuss your concerns, and I will be able to produce a plan of action for your treatment, the initial consultation session normally take approx. 1 hour.

Does your office have Disabled Access?

Yes, this was one of the most important things that influenced my decision to set up my practice in Hesketh Mount.

What are you opening times?

I have access to my offices on Lord Street, in Southport during the day, evenings and weekends. Enabling session times to be tailored to meet your needs.

Is there any on-site parking?

Unfortunately, there is no on-site parking, but there are plenty of ‘pay and display parking’ areas, there are also really good links to busses and Southport train station is approx. 3-5 min walk away. There is free parking in some streets in the surrounding areas (which are approx. 5-10 min walk away), and after 18:00 most of the ‘pay and display parking’ areas become free.
